On the 25 of July our beautiful son Albirru was born at Armadale hospital. Early in the pregnancy we were told that I had marginal cord insertion.
We didn’t really know what this meant, except were told that our baby may not get nutrients from me, and we needed more scans than usual. We were alarmed and confused, as we weren’t really explained why.
After seeking advice from Michelle, she explained what it meant and put our worries at ease. With regular antenatal meetings, discussing everything to expect, and even postnatal and breastfeeding advice prior to birth enabled the transition into parenthood much easier.
At 34 weeks we were told that our baby was breech. Michelle presented the options available, and we decided on an ECV at 37 weeks. The ECV was a SUCCESS!! For me it felt like a deep massage of my stomach, except the injection in my belly was not my thing. At 41.3 we decided (again after all information was given to us) on an induction.
Labour progressed well; it was longer than I expected plus I was tired from a lack of sleep due to a cough I had developed a week before. After 10 hours on gas alone, and about 100 cups of sweet black tea, I reached 9.5 cm dilated. Baby was still quite high so we decided on an epidural so I could rest, ready for my pushing. Albirru was born at 00:16 weighing 3280grams.
My amazing team of my incredible husband Locky and doula Michelle helped give me the strength and confidence to birth without fear and enjoy my labour. It was challenging but I knew I could do it and I did!
