Taking care of your lady bits

by | Guides, Tools & Resources

Hi, it’s Michelle here from Perth Doula Services. I wanted to talk to you today about perineums. There is a lot of perineal oil out on the market, and I’ve had some great advice from a women’s health specialist, she said that any oil you buy from the supermarket is more than suitable. Obviously, we won’t go for a chilli-infused oil because that would hurt a little bit down there. But you can use olive oil, grapeseed oil, or hemp seed oil.

They do recommend that perineal massage is good from 35 weeks. It just helps to prepare the area for birth and can reduce the chances of tearing. Also, you can buy perineal bottles as well, and they are generally used to clean the area after you’ve had either a tear or some stitches. It’s really important to make sure it stays clean, but equally, it’s important to make sure it’s dry to stop any infection.

I found this for $13 at my local pharmacy. You use this to spray the area. I would suggest using nice, warm water to spray it and clean it. Afterwards, keep the area dry. I also suggest you don’t get too close. This is a pretty handy tool to have and saves you from having to order things online. Grab yourself some!
